Brisbane has the densest coast on this list. The Gold Coast is 76 km south, Noosa 138 km north, Hervey Bay lies further north on the Fraser Coast. Each makes a different trip from the city.
Sydney is a much longer journey south. Allow several days if you want to stop along the coast, rather than treating the drive as a single day.
Weather can help decide which coast to visit, but travelling between them means crossing the Brisbane area. Allow for traffic and check the route before setting off.
